Accountability for Climate Damage Caused by Russia’s War against Ukraine

This side event will examine the climate impacts of Russia’s ongoing armed aggression against Ukraine, analysing three years of conflict-induced GHG emissions. The discussion will explore accountability for damage caused to the climate and will propose options in utilising war reparations, in particular for a low-carbon reconstruction, repairing damaged carbon sinks, and adaptation in Ukraine and in other climate-vulnerable states. The event seeks to foster a dialogue on what constitutes fair and just compensation for climate-related harm caused by armed conflicts
